Cut 20% off Commute Costs - Ride a Bike !
www.cut20.com
I’m amazed how many people I encounter here, riding their bikes as much as I do. It still begs the question when you look at the great bus service and number of bike lanes and trails here in Eugene - why don’t I see more bikes out on the daily commute ?
I believe the answer lies in people’s minds when they consider commuting by bike to be inconvenient, impractical, or unsafe. I understand each of these considerations, but would rather promote bicycle commuting. Recently though, something light on its feet has emerged and I've given quite a bit of thought on how it might go mainstream. This something is called the BugE, found at www.BugEv.net - masterminded by Cresswell, OR resident, Mark Murphy.
The name of this website came to me one day as I was riding my bike to work in Tampa Bay. Every day I rode my bike I cut my ‘rising’ fuel costs by 20%. So I looked for a short, memorable phrase that might help people remember the site. A sight that helps people save money while having a promising affect on their surroundings and also to promote bicycle commuting.
My wife and I now ride our bicycles to everywhere. She can ride for fifteen short minutes down the Amazon Bike Path to here position at Pivot Architecture where she designs LEED Accredited buildings as an Architect. And I use my bike for everything I do, including taking our little girl Bella (Pom/Cairn Terrier mix) for rides to the store or dog park.
If there’s anything I could do to encourage you to ride your bike to work, please give me that opportunity and drop me a line. Most bicycle injuries are related to improper riding such as riding at night without lights, riding towards traffic, not wearing a helmet, etc. Most of these can be overcome with good riding habits, which leads to an enjoyable, rewarding experience. It not only slows things down a bit, but will also Cut 20% off your commute expense, and make a difference with regard to your carbon footprint. So do like Freddie Mercury said, “Get on your bikes and ride” ! As for me and mine, we’ll see you out there, on our bikes of course – JD & Kelley Howell of Eugene, OR
